Counseling Package

TESTING:
Individualized SAT and/or ACT test preparation will assess content gaps and is designed to fill those gaps as well as offer practice and strategy insights.

CAREER EXPLORATION:
Investigation of possible post high school plans are pursued using the Career Direct career exploration program.

COLLEGE FIT SEARCH:
The student and family will meet with the counselor to establish boundaries, criteria, and motivations to begin the college search. Using various databases, a preliminary list of prospective college options will be created. This list is narrowed several times throughout the college application process.

*CALENDAR / TIMELINE MANAGEMENT:
Creation of an individualized timeline and calendar including, but not limited to, deadlines for college applications, testing dates and registration, scholarship application, housing, and notification. The counselor is responsible for reminding the family of pending deadlines. The student is responsible for completing applications and mailing by the appropriate deadlines.

*RECORD MANAGEMENT: MMEC will keep a copy of test scores, applications, resume, teacher recommendations requests and letters, correspondence with admissions offices, scholarship search results, and notifications.

APPLICATION PROCESS:
Spring of junior year will include a practice run of the application. Students will complete a preliminary Common Application previous to July 1. Preparation for the application will also include resume and essay completion. After July 1, applications for final, narrowed list can be completed and submitted.

*SCHOLARSHIP SEARCH:
Parameters for scholarships will be completed through several search engines for the purpose of finding independent scholarships. Their deadlines will be added to the timeline / calendar.

NOTIFICATION FOLLOW-UP:
Housing deadlines and deposits and honors options for acceptance notifications are added to the timeline*. Preparation for and scheduled retake of entrance tests as well as mid-year transcript requests are added for any deferment notifications.
